Project Description

This project will improve a mile of 24th Avenue SE between Lindsey Street and Imhoff Street.  The existing 24th Avenue is a moderately travelled two-lane roadway in east Norman.  Due to expanding residential growth of the area, more and more home developments are being located off of 24th Avenue SE, causing an increase in traffic and the need for roadway and intersection improvements. The intersection with Lindsey Street, shown in the above picture, is currently controlled by a four-way stop.  The increase in traffic on both 24th Avenue SE and Lindsey Street has caused this intersection to be inefficient.  Both streets will be widened to a five lane section through this intersection, and the intersection will gain traffic signalization.  The five-lane section will continue south of the intersection on 24th Avenue SE to Imhoff Street, where it will tie into the existing five-lane section at State Highway 9.  Lindsey Street west of the 24th Avenue SE intersection will also be widened to a five lane section, with design work being completed by others.  The existing roadside ditches will be replaced with a storm sewer system. Right-of-way has already been acquired, and utilities in this section-line corridor have already been relocated to allow for roadway expansion.  Roadway construction began in September, 2007, and is scheduled to be completed in October, 2008.
